Why is Everyone Going Mad for Retinol and is it Any Good for Acne?

Why is Everyone Going Mad for Retinol and is it Any Good for Acne?

The weather change is certainly underway, the most common phrase at the moment is "it’s so cold outside”, of course, for numerous reasons, this can have a negative effect on your skin, exacerbating conditions like acne, rosacea, eczema and psoriasis, but what can you be doing extra to help with your skin?

Dermatologists swear by Retinol and research shows that it can tackle a ton of skin care concerns, including acne as well as wrinkles and rough, or discoloured skin. Second, only to SPF, Retinol is recommended for just about everyone, even those with sensitive skin and for an excellent reason.

If you suffer from moderate to severe acne and over-the-counter medications and washes have had little or no effect, then you may want to try Retinol as an alternative treatment as it influences cell turnover and can be of benefit in normalising increased cell turnover as seen in acne. However, while Retinol for acne has been proven effective in treating certain types of acne, for those who suffer from blackheads, whiteheads or occasional pimples should not consider Retinol for acne because these forms of mild acne can be better treated with ingredients such as salicylic acid.

It is a well-known feature of acne development that skin cell production increases and these cells die quicker resulting in more skin surface debris which can increase the risk of hair follicle ducts becoming blocked, leading to blackheads and spots. Retinol helps normalise cell production and reduces the risk of blockages.

Take our Synchrovit® which contains encapsulated forms of Vitamin A (Retinol) and Vitamin E (Tocopherol), which has potent antioxidant properties to mop up free radicals generated by stress and 'life'.

Synchrovit® also contains Acetyl Glucosamine, Glucuronic Acid and Saccharide Isomerate, which improves skin tone and increases the skin's ability to hold water and promote the biosynthesis of Hyaluronic acid.

Synchronised anti-wrinkle – anti-oxidant effect through the simultaneous action of Retinol (Vitamin A) and Tocopherol (Vitamin E) which inhibits the formation of "free radicals” and stimulate cellular renewal, leaving the skin younger looking and brighter.

Synchrovit® promotes tone and turgidity on the skin of the face and neck, stimulating the biosynthesis of hyaluronic acid.

Why is SkinMed’s Retinol Cream Different?

As we encapsulate the Retinol before we add it to our high technology creams, and we do this for a number of reasons:

  • It has little surface activity and so it doesn't irritate like some other Retinol creams. So it is released sequentially as it goes deeper and deeper into the skin - delivering a prolonged long lasting effect.
  • The active ingredients contained in the product provide a synergistic decrease invisible acne as the Retinol helps the skin shed dead and dying cells faster so they don’t contribute to clogged pores. This can also prevent new breakouts from forming, especially if you are prone to cystic acne.
