When it comes to skin care there are plenty of do’s and don’ts but it’s important to know what is actually correct and what isn’t. Here are 4 common myths that we thought we’d clear up.
1). You only need to wear sunscreen when it’s sunny
SkinMed always advise wearing sunscreen every day to protect your skin from UV light and to prevent pigmentation from developing as the UV rays can damage your skin even if the sun isn’t out and it’s cloudy. At times, the rays can reflect off clouds and intensify the level of UV radiation, making partly sunny days harmful for skin.
2). Acne can be caused by wearing make-up
Wearing make-up isn’t a cause for acne however not removing your make-up properly and washing your face properly before you go to bed can clog your pores and trigger a breakout.
3). Tingling sensations mean that the product is working
This tingling sensation comes from skin irritation and doesn’t mean that the product is working. "Cooling” agents like menthol and peppermint work by causing inflammation in certain areas to counter the swelling in other parts.
4). Expensive products are better than cheaper ones
Everyone’s skin is different so you need to focus on finding products that are right for your skin type rather than focusing on the most expensive.
